Membership: Roles and Responsibilities

Junior Board General Meetings

The entire Junior Board will meet three times per year: January, May, and September.

General Meetings will convene at the New York Catholic Center, 1011 First Avenue.

Attendance is encouraged at all meetings, and each member is required to attend at least two General Meetings per year.

Committee Participation

Committees meet every other month to plan social events, service opportunities or faith-based initiatives.  If additional meetings are needed, the individual dates and times are to be determined by the Committee Co-Chairs.  All members are required to sit on one Committee of their choosing (see descriptions below).  Sitting on a committee does not imply your time is exclusive to that Committee.  Members are strongly encouraged to participate in all the events and volunteer activities that are offered.

General

Each Junior Board member is asked to participate in 10-12 hours of activity per year.  Attendance at meetings, volunteer opportunities, and social events will all count toward the hours of activity.

Each Junior Board member is asked to give or get a minimum donation of $150 per year.  That $150 can be reached by means of a personal donation, the purchase of event tickets, or procurement of funds or goods to benefit volunteer activities or Junior Board social events and fundraisers.  Members are encouraged to set up a personal First Giving web page and share with potential donors to help the fundraising efforts of the Junior Board.

Key Initiatives

The Junior Board is responsible for two major fundraising efforts.  The first is the St. Nicholas Project which raises funds to purchase items of necessity such as coats, hats, sweaters, and blankets to more than 2,500 individuals each December at our annual Kmart Shopping Day.  Junior Board members are asked to “give or get” donations to support the project during the winter season and volunteer at the annual Kmart Shopping Day.
The second initiative is the Junior Board Gala held in June.  Again, the proceeds of the event are directed to helping clients involved with the St. Nicholas Project.  All Junior Board members are asked to attend the event.
