Group Activities Assistant

Description:  Volunteers will assist group leaders in conducting group projects and activities for help HIV-infected children. Group activities range from the completion of art projects to productions of plays to opportunities for pet therapy.  This position is perfect for people who are compassionate, understanding and like to work in a group setting.

Purpose:  Provide enriching activities for. Provide fun and enriching weekend activities for a group of youths whose medical needs preclude them from engaging in community activities. HIV-infected children.

Where:  Manhattan

When:  2-3 hours a week, between 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm Sunday - Thursday.

Duration of Commitment:  4-month minimum

Type of Volunteers:  individuals, groups

Skills Needed:  Energy, enthusiasm, and a desire to work with children. A love of children and some prior experience working with them is necessary or a strong background in child development is preferred. Creativity and knowing age-appropriate activities is helpful. 

Orientation / Training:  Volunteers must fill out an application form and also have an interview with the volunteer coordinator. They must complete a medical history and must be up-to date with immunizations (arrangements for a physical will be handled by the center).  Volunteers will be screened through New York State’s Child Abuse Registry. A brief orientation and training program will be provided at the site.
