St. Nicholas Project

Donate to the St. Nicholas Project

The St. Nicholas Project is a year-round initiative that encompasses a number of Catholic Charities efforts to provide help by encouraging volunteerism and charitable giving not only at Christmas time, but also throughout the year. In keeping with the story of St. Nicholas (whom some know better as Santa Claus) our work has a special focus during the Christmas holiday season.

Adopt-a-Family provides basic essentials for a happier Christmas to thousands of families and individuals of all religions. Many donors may choose to purchase items of necessity identified by the family that will be delivered by Catholic Charities workers to each family. Other donors may make cash contributions to Catholic Charities on behalf of a family and have volunteers do the purchasing at the Annual St. Nicholas Shopping Day.

St. Nicholas Annual Shopping Day is a festive tradition in partnership with Kmart. Each year, 200 volunteer shoppers purchase coats, hats, gloves, scarves, sweaters, pajamas, socks and blankets to help families stay warm throughout the winter season.

Year-Round Support for St. Nicholas Project Families

The St. Nicholas Project does not end at Christmas. Throughout the year, professional Catholic Charities staff support and work with the St. Nicholas Project families who received Christmas gifts to support their efforts to move forward in their lives, and to live in greater independence by providing job training, arranging for day care, and other important social services.
