- Catholic Charities Immigration Office has been reaching out in the New York community via seminars and workshops to assist with the process of filing for TPS (Temporary Protected Status.) The following is a schedule of events planned thus far:
February 10, 2010: Information session on TPS and other immigration remedies at Transit Technical High School in Brooklyn, NY.
February 20, 2010: Immigration seminar with a discussion of TPS at the St. Jean Baptiste Community Center.

- Monsignor Kevin Sullivan, Catholic Charities executive director appeared on Good Day Street Talk this morning. Monsignor Sullivan discussed the plight of Haitian orphans in the aftermath of the earthquake and how organizations like Catholic Charities can help respond to their needs in a humane and effective way. Catholic Charities Immigration Services will be holding weekly intake sessions for Haitians seeking Temporary Protected Status. These clinics will be held every Wednesday from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm through July 2010.

- Monsignor Sullivan's weekly JustLove radio show on SIRIUS/XM Radio's Catholic Channel addressed the state of relief services in Haiti. Monsignor Sullivan spoke with Joan Rosenhauer, Executive VP of Catholic Relief Services for US Operations who explained the scope of CRS' efforts in Haiti to date with a focus on food, water, and shelter. Catholic Charities employees Marianna Macri and Tessa Pauly of the Marketing and Communications department discussed how social media tools help advance the causes and online activism of Generation Y highlighting how tools like Twitter, Facebook and mobile giving strategies helped raise millions of dollors to help those suffering in Haiti. - Catholic Charities NYS Immigration Hotline is extending its hours for Creole assistance until 8:00 PM.
- Catholic Charities Immigration Services announces a special Haitian TPS (Temporary Protected Status) on Wednesdays from 3:00 to 6:00 PM.
- This service will continue for the duration of the registration period (through July 2010).
- Archbishop Dolan visited with CRS officials, Haitian clergy and members of the New York media while in Haiti. Read about Archbishop Dolan's experience in Haiti on his blog.

- Catholic Charities hosts press conference with the offices of Senator Kristen Gillibrand (D-NY) and Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) bringing attention to the plight of Haitian orphans.
- Archbishop Dolan left early this morning for Port-au-Prince. At the request of the Papal Nuncio in Haiti, Archbishop Dolan is travelling to the Haitian capital to attend the funeral for Archbishop Serge Miot, who was killed in the devastating earthquake.
- During Archbishop Dolan's time in Haiti, as the Chair of Catholic Relief Services, he will offer support to the more than 300 CRS workers who operate year round throughout Haiti. Many of these dedicated workers lost friends and loved one's last Tuesday - along with the victims, we keep them in our prayers.
- Archbishop Dolan will assess the relief efforts during his visit to see how the Catholic Church and the United States can best respond to the tragedy.

- Archbishop Dolan's most recent blog posting entitled "A Generous Reponse" reflects on the massive efforts being made to help as people areound the world learned about the widespread devastation in Haiti. Archbishop Dolan refers to the second collection in Catholic parishes across the country as well as the efforts of aid agencies, like Catholic Relief Services as the people of Haiti try to rebuild their country and their lives.

- The following quote appeared on the Catholic Relief Service website and is excerpted from the NYTimes Lede Blog: "The recent earthquake that devastated Haiti also destroyed much of St. Francois de Salle Hospital,” in Port-au-Prince. Lane Hartill, an information officer for the charity writes that, “about 70% of the hospital has been destroyed.” Despite this, the charity reports that it has gotten some medical supplies to the hospital and on Sunday “doctors there performed their first operation – an amputation – since the earthquake using a building that was still habitable.”

Archbishop Timothy Dolan requests that a special collection be taken up in all parishes of the Archdiocese of New York on Sunday, January 17, for the relief of the victims in Haiti. The money raised in this collection will go to Catholic Relief Services, the humanitarian arm of the Catholic Church, for the relief of suffering Haitians.

Archbishop Dolan, who is in Rome for a series of meetings and ceremonies for the 150th Anniversary of the Pontifical North American College, met with Paul Josef Cardinal Cordes, President of Cor Unum, the Pope’s charitable outreach agency, and with the Haitian Embassy to the Vatican, and assured them that the Archdiocese of New York would provide whatever financial assistance it can.

At the request of Archbishop Timothy Dolan, a letter from Bishop Dennis Sullivan, Vicar General of the Archdiocese, has been sent to every priest in the Archdiocese, asking that the people of Haiti be remembered in prayer in a special way this weekend, and conveying the Archbishop’s condolences to any member of the Haitian community in New York who lost a loved one in the earthquake.

JustLove, a SIRIUS-XM radio show on the Catholic Channel hosted by Monsignor Kevin Sullivan, Catholic Charities Executive Director, includes a special segment on the disaster in Haiti helping listeners understand the magnitude of the crisis. Monsignor Sullivan interviewed Fr. Levelt Germain, Pastor of Our Lady of Grace Parish in the Bronx. Fr. Levelt had recently returned from Haiti and was able to convey in detail the impact of the earthquake on the places he knew well. It is announced in this interview, with great sadness, that Archbishop J. Serge Miot of Port-au Prince had died in the earthquake. A link to this show will soon be available.

- Appeals for aid reach around the world.
- A 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Haiti. The epicenter was predicted to be 10 miles southwest of the nation's capital, Port-au-Prince. Given this location, it is estimated that approximately 3 million people have been affected by the massive earthquake.
