Haitian Immigrants Granted Temporary Protected Status

Statement from Monsignor Kevin Sullivan, executive director of Catholic Charities

"In response to requests by many organizations including the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Administration has extended temporary protection status to Haitians in the US facing deportation.In this time of tragedy and great suffering this will provide much needed relief to many individuals and families.   Actions such as this demonstrate the capacity for our immigration system to be both fair and compassionate.  Catholic Charities in its work with thousands of immigrants is aware of the ongoing need for such prudence and sensitivity that reflects the best of the American spirit."
