Catholic Charities joins in plea on behalf of Haitian orphans

Catholic Charities hosted a press conference on behalf of Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) to discuss the response to escalating needs in Haiti since last Tuesday's earthquake. Also in attendance were Senator Robert Menendez, (D-NJ) Chairman of the Foreign Relations subcommittee, Congresswoman Yvette Clarke (D-Brooklyn), Councilwoman Letitia James (D-Brooklyn) and Dr. Jane Aronson, an infectious disease pediatrician and founder of the Worldwide Orphans Foundation. The press event focused on the developments in immigration policy for Haitians living in the United States, such as the extension of Temporary Protected Status. The public officials gave special attention to the orphaned children of Haiti, urging the speedy advancement of adoption policy and their intention to work with Haiti to do so in a culturally sensitive way.
