Providing Hope for New York's Homeless
On the night of January 25, Monsignor Kevin Sullivan joined Commissioner of the New York City Department of Homeless Services Robert V. Hess and volunteers associated with Catholic Charities to help conduct the annual Homeless Outreach Population Estimate (HOPE).
Each year, HOPE produces a point-in-time estimate of the unsheltered homeless population in NYC. The information gathered by volunteers each year during HOPE is critical in measuring the success of ongoing efforts to reduce street homelessness.
Volunteers were trained and set up in teams to help count the number of New Yorkers living in public places such as streets, parks, and subways.
