CC Inaugural Gala Benefit Raises $1.7 MM
700 Guests Celebrate the Catholic Charities Inaugural Gala Benefit at the Waldorf=Astoria Hotel.

Seven hundred supporters of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York celebrated the work of Catholic Charities and its network of more than 90 human services agencies to provide help and create hope for New Yorkers in need. The inaugural event, held at the Waldorf=Astoria Hotel and underwritten by the Catholic Charities Board of Trustees, raised $1.72 million. Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan presented the Deus Caritas Est award to John K. Castle, chairman and CEO of Castle Harlan and Christopher Nassetta, president and CEO of Hilton Worldwide in recognition of their personal and professional contributions to human services throughout the Archdiocese of New York. The program for the evening, emceed by Darlene Rodriguez from WNBC New York, began with an invocation by His Eminence, Edward Cardinal Egan. Tony Award Winner Brian Stokes Mitchell sang a medley of Broadway show tunes that ended with a stirring rendition of "The Impossible Dream" that brought the audience to its feet.
