Monsignor Kevin Sullivan, Executive Director of Catholic Charities of New York, will receive Cardinal Dolan at the Food Distribution Center
His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan will visit Catholic Charities of New York’s Bronx Distribution Center on Holy Thursday, April 13, 2017, to distribute food to clients of the Center’s food pantry.
In 2016, Catholic Charities of New York opened the Bronx Food Distribution Center to increase access of fresh produce and support services to a network of community-based interfaith pantries and soup kitchens to assist the food insecure and hungry of the Bronx and Northern Manhattan.
The 1,050 square foot site has received, sorted and distributed approximately 513,000 lbs. of food per month, which equates to providing 37,000 meals per month to community residents.
Goya Foods is a generous supporter of the Food Distribution Center, having donated 300,000 pounds of food to Catholic Charities of New York this year, much of which is distributed through the Bronx Food Distribution Center to a network of 18 pantries and other food programs in the south Bronx and upper Manhattan.
The opening of the Food Distribution Center is one of several key initiatives Catholic Charities has undertaken as part of their centennial year activities. In 2017, Catholic Charities is marking a 100-year legacy of service and launching the next century of providing help and creating hope for New Yorkers in need. Catholic Charities is recommitting to providing basic human services that are efficient, effective, accountable and caring – and to being a valued partner in building the fabric of a caring New York.
