Description
CREATE, Inc. was initiated in 1970 to promote the physical, psychological, social and spiritual well-being of the poor, homeless addicted and alienated member of the community by the provision of caring community-based services. It began to provide residential and outpatient services to chemical dependent persons in 1973 through New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Service funding. In 1978 it initiated a Senior Citizen Day Services program. In 1983 it opened CREATE House, which became the first privately-operated shelter funded by New York City. In 1991, CREATE, Inc. began CREATE Young Adult Center for homeless young men aged 18 to 25. In 1996, CREATE established Westminster House which provides 11 units of supportive housing for homeless recovering chemicaly dependentl individuals and single parents and their families. The Agency also provides a community emergency food service for hungry community members, called CREATE/Anthony House.
