Saint Anthony's Residence was opened on June 13, 1993 by the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal to care for the long-term needs of the homeless in New York City. Saint Anthony's Residence is a Supportive Single Room Occupancy Residence for 65 formerly homeless men. Each resident has a private, furnished room and uses shared kitchen and bathroom facilities. There is also a dining room which serves lunch and dinner six days a week. Each resident has a case manager who provides assistance in apartment management, budgeting, personal hygiene, nutrition, GED programs, job placement, and basic computer skills. Twenty-four hour security is provided for the safety of the residents and the building. Saint Anthony's Residence has a caring staff who assist in the spiritual development of residents through prayer, weekly bible study, communal prayer services, weekly Mass and Holy Hour. There are numerous other group developmental and social activities and opportunities provided to the residents of Saint Anthony's on a regular basis.
