Westchester Volunteers Make Winter Warm for Families in Need

On Tuesday December 6, the Feast Day of St. Nicholas, Catholic Charities volunteers shopped for local families in need at the first ever Westchester outpost of
St. Nicholas Project Shopping Day, known as SNOW (St. Nicholas of Westchester). The event was held at the White Plains Kmart, where volunteers from the Westchester area shopped for winter necessities like gloves, coats, boots and blankets to provide a warm and happy Christmas for 250 of their neighbors in need.

The inaugural event was organized by Susan Salice, a member of the Board of Trustees of Catholic Charities. “As a resident of Westchester, one of my goals coming on the Board was to raise the profile of Catholic Charities and the work that we do in Westchester,” said Salice. “This event is an opportunity to showcase the commitment that we all have to helping others, not only in New York City, but also in Westchester and other counties.”

SNOW was also attended by Robert Astorino, Westchester County executive and Monsignor Kevin Sullivan, executive director of Catholic Charities New York.
The St. Nicholas Project is a year-round program that supports families in need with social services such as summer camps and after school programs; employment readiness training, placement and support; and case management to help people resolve financial, emotional and family issues.The Manhattan St. Nicholas Project Shopping Day will be held at the Astor Place Kmart in Greenwich Village. The Manhattan St. Nicholas Project Shopping Day usually attracts close to 300 volunteers, who shop for more than 1,200 individuals in need.
